It probably is a hive. Sometimes hives are flat reddish discolorations. Sometimes, tiny raised bumps, smaller than a dime. Sometimes they are the size of 50 cent pieces and they can also be huge. It could be if you used a sunscreen that you are sensitive to, or it could have been caused by sun exposure.Here is a link to a picture of a giant hive.
