Peanut Butter cookies recipe but no shortening?

I want to make peanut butter cookies and this is a recipe I trust:

Well, one problem. I don't have shortening.
What can I use in place of it, if at all?
The recipe calls for:
1/4th Butter
1/4th shortening.
Does it make a difference if I just add butter to the previous butter?

i have this little phucker of a rat who just WILL NOT go away.
Apartments have tried those 'sticky pads' and the snap traps' they arent doing enouch in my opinion, this has been going on over a month, and im getting tired of seeing rat poop everywhere. We dont even eat there anymore so i dont know what he is surviving off of, but he is living upstairs in my daughters room.
I went and bought the cage that traps them in, using peanut butter and he hasnt gotten into their, he has escaped the sticky pads. and the snap traps dont get him.
I bought decon yesterday and used three packets. One wasnt touched, one had a teeny tiny small hole in it im not even sure he got anything out of and the third bag was opened and looks like he did get to the pellets.
However, which one did he get to first? And if he got to the one opened most, why did he continue to the next because they werent opened as much?
Also, .. how much is needed for them to digest before it takes an effect? What if he just bit into them but didnt eat anything?
Supposedly it dehydrates them.. but what if they find water? and what if he didnt consume enough to kill him? This little monster will not just dissappear.. aghhhh, im so frustrated and annoyed.. omg..
please help me out, what other suggestions do youguys have for me,, id appreciate anything as im about to stay up in the middle of the night/ with a gun in my hand and shoot this rodent.. its disgusting and again,, managment is so noncholant about the whole thing its making me madder, but im stuck in a lease. dang it.

lmao!!! he is!!! he is picky of the food he eats and he is huge! d@mn rat on steriods.. i do have a 3 year old, he stays in her room.. but she doesnt spend much time in there anyway, i have contacted the health department, and pest control.. .they havent beenmuch help either. booooo

Trouble getting enough protein, what else can I eat?

I make my own protein bars (about 16g each), I try and drink protein shakes after my work outs (can't stand the taste so I put less then the regular serving, about 19g) I'm not a big fan of meat but I will have tuna fish once in awhile (don't want to over do it, mercury poisoning, 40g) I get a few grams from random food through out the day but not nearly enough.

According to the internets I'm supposed to get between 80-120 grams a day. I don't think I've had over 50g today and I'm stuffed! I just forced some natural peanut butter down my throat in an attempt to get some more in me.
For dinner I plan on having 2 chick pea patties, curried zucchini and a plain lettuce and vinaigrette salad.

What else can I do to get more protein without busting my belt, I can't stomach more whey protein (really don't like the taste) and I can't have more tuna this week.
btw, I'm female, 115lbs age 22.
I'm active and I work out a lot.
Getting prepaired for the military.

Is peanut butter safe 2 months after the BEST BY date?

It's best by date is 07 14 10, and it has creamy brown liquid on top of it, it's been opened before, it's like half empty. It's 5:44 am, I can't sleep, and I found it in the pantry thinking it'd be a nice little snack. I don't know though, it doesn't smell at all and I'm too scared to taste it.

How can I cut the sweetness of my buckeyes?

I made buckeyes(peanut butter/powdered sugar balls coated in chocolate) and the recipe was too sweet for my taste. Is there anything I can do to them to make them less sweet right now? Like maybe put some sort of sauce over them... I don't know!

we don't have a lot of money and don't have any MEAT at the moment. If we did I would be using that, but I wanted to MAKE something for him, to show I love him, and to make it more personal. *yes that is for myself I know some of you out their would say dogs don't understand personal things but I think they do*
